We had a European summer, part of which was spent in our friends, Brigitte and Marc's beautiful house in Franche Comté on the enchanting river Doubs in eastern France. We did lots of walks, most of which involved climbing up the sides of the very steep valley of the Doubs.
Baume les Dames is one of the larger towns nearby, and on one memorable walk we ended up on a rocky feature - "Fente de Babre" - way above the river and the town. Like many aspects of our short but treasured time there, it had an impact - but the strongest impact was made by the friendly greetings we received in the village.
This song is dedicated to Brigitte, Marc, Karine, Bertrand, Apolline, Laurentin (and their extended family) and, of course, Lilou, from Ougney-les-Champs.
Musically, it seems to be the opening of some floodgates which have been well and truly closed for me as far as songwriting goes lately. I really enjoyed writing, playing and producing this one - hopefully, that shows in the end result.
